Book lll: The Hesta.

Hesta is ten years old. She lives - a virtual outcast - by Brocan's command in the clan's remote enclave far west of Kond, her life, her very self shrouded in mysteries. Her only ally is Rakia who tends and guards her jealously until a sudden raid on the enclave sends everyone into a cellar refuge benath the house. Driven out by fire, she is seized and carried off - and her world cracks open. All too fast she discovers who she is and the horror of what lies ahead. But unexpected allies help her escape and there begins her awakening and coming into her own.

This remote and secret enclave is loaded with mysteries which no one will explain. Such as what is the vague, unnamed threat to its safety? What is the strange tomb set off into the woods surrounding the house? If Brocan is her father, where is her mother? And why Brocan's visit out of season that causes sorrow and Rakia to weep? This is when an attack on Rakia sends the whole clan down into the secret cellar. And down there, what is the meaning of the silver rose set into the cellar wall?

After Hestas is abducted she learns of a chain of secret refuges stretching from Gurnyac almost to faa-aron-Ramoni. These originally were built by the clan Founder to house slaves escaping Gurnyac. At that time their function was of a more sinister nature and Hesta was to find out....
