GERRAD'S QUEST
Book V in the 9-book series.

The nine books divide naturally into two parts: vols 1-4 tell of Gom from his origins to the climax in The Starstone. This is almost all from Gom's viewpoint, so we never get to see him from the outside. Gerrad's Quest, told largely from Gerrad's viewpoint, serves as a bridge to vols 6-9 where the viewpoint moves around. It is also the first book in which Gom is not the central figure. From hereon, we meet others who form an integral part of the action, including one who is to become Gom's first and greatest peer friend....

Gerrad.

Ten years after the Battle of Sundor: Gom is now a legendary hero. As the son of Leochtor and Nasidda, lord and lady of the Lakes, Gerrad leads a narrow and protected life. His hero is Gom, and he has longed to meet him forever, but Gom is holed up in the Dunderfosse and never leaves it. He asks that Gom attend his eleventh birthday banquet, but not even his high rank can pull it off. So one night while his parents are away he sneaks down to the Fishing Quarter in disguise to find Gom's friends and maybe an adventure or two. He gets those alright. Does he find Gom? Kinda.
